     An organization can be defined as a system of coordination actives of group of people working cooperatively towards a common goal under authority and leadership. A hotel can be regarded as an organization because it.

• Is goal oriented, which may include providing accommodation and providing food and beverage services for its customers(guests) or payment.
• Plans and coordinates of its staff in order to achieve its goal.
• Divides personnel into functional departments, each with their own areas of authority and responsibility.
• Organizes and executes plan and procedures for future growth of the property.  

No hotel company operating today can be unaware of the swift pace of global change and its impact on every surface of the hospitality industry. New business practices are evolving virtually as fast as our technologies, while resistance to change has become one of primary causes of business failure. Government instabilities, terrorism and inadequate professional training and development have led  India to dwindle the hotel business. still, we hope to recover the business with added strategy and improvements.

          The spirit of constant change raises fundamental questions as to creation of shareholder wealth in capital-constrained, highly competitive environment like India . How   will hotel organization build shareholder wealth and  what key drivers will result in success? What future products and services will be essential in a technology-driven, global environment marked by rising customer expectation? Moreover what alternative approaches and skills must organization develop to ensure market success?

         The future success of hotel organization will be driven in large part by the ability to foresee and capitalize on change. However, there is an urgent need to identify what will be required in the competitive of the future  with its intense focus of on serving customer needs. the hospitality industry as is case with business generally is subject to deep currents of change set in motion as economics and social system shaped in the industrial era evolved to a knowledge-based era driven by technology advances.

        Learners/students in the chapter are encouraged to study the future prospect of the hotel business and act accordingly to gain an unbeaten career in this industry as a manager or the owner.

All organization require a formal structure to carry out their mission and objectives. A common method of representing the structure about different people working in an organization in various departments with in the hotel is referred as hotel organization chart. Organization structures refer to the hierarchical arrangements of various positions in an enterprises.

          An organization chart is a clear picture about the division of responsibilities, lines of authorities and channel of communication within the departments. It is a schematic representation between position within an organization, showing where each position fits in overall organization.

        The organization chart of a hotel  depends upon the size of establishment and the resources within the hotel. The resources might be the number of employees that are  required to operate the hotel efficiently, the technology and the work methods. Hotel organization chart deals with the major operational departments and the other supporting departments. The four major departments are:

1. Front Office
2. Housekeeping
3. Food and Beverage Service
4. Food and Beverage Production

The other supporting departments in the hotel are Accounts, Purchase, Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Security and Human Resources. These entire departments have their respective heads and staff working under them.
