Conrad Hilton
The best-known name in the history of the hotel industry is Conrad Hilton. He was born on Dec .25, 1887. He was the founder of the Hilton Hotels Corporation. As a teenager, Hilton had earned by renting out spare bedrooms in his fathers house to travelling salesman, which include three meals cooked by Hilton mother and sister. Later after fulfilling his military duty, he decided to involve himself in the hotels business. He purchased a rundown hotel in Cisco, Texas, and after a few months renovation, he transformed the operation into profit making enterprise. After World war I, numerous hotels were built in big cities and smaller outlying communities. IN 1972, he opened 3000 rooms Stevens Hotels, in Chicago. It remained the largest hotel in the world for several decades. In 1942, Hilton established the 'Town House' in Los Angeles, and a year later, took over Roosevelt in New York( his lifelong ambition).
Barron Hilton, the son of corned Hilton, Presides over an empire that includes some 205 Hilton hotels and inns, either owned or franchised, at present. He died in 1979 at the age of 91.
Eilsworth M. Statler
Eilsworth M. Statler invented a new type of commercial lodging industry. The first Statler hotel opened in buffalo,New York, in January 1908. Gradually, by 1920's hotels bearing his name had been built in Cleveland, St Lous, Detroit, Boston and New York. E. M. Statler took the concept of private sanitary rooms and added the notion of private bath. for additional security a light was installed just inside every entrance. Statler,s advertising slogan was"A room and a bath for a dollar and half , it was well known among American travelers of the early 20th century. His architectural designs, engineering concept, and services ideas became the foundation for all subsequent hotel industry.
Kemmons Wilson
He was the founder of holiday Inn hotels and resort(the world's largest hotel chain). he was born to a very poor family. At a very young age he had to abandon his education owing the poor economical condition. He was very enterprising a young boy, and he obtained a popcorn vending machine on installment basic. He fixed his stall in front of a local theater. The business earned him good profit and he reinvested the earned profit in the business, Than gradually he acquired a house and several theaters of his own.
Kemmons Wilson then amassed a modest fortune in the construction business. In 1952,Wilson decide to put his fortune into the development of national hotel chain that would provide the kind of clean, comfortable and reasonably priced accommodation. Kemmons Wilson's dream may have only magnified the basic problem he set out to eliminate the high cost of lodging encountered by the family travelling on a modest budget.
Ceaser Ritz
Ceaser Ritz introduced the concept of luxury hotels. He started his career as a steward in catering industry and gradually became owner of chain of hotels. He opened hotels in London,Paris,Rome,Frankfurt,New York and other such leading cities. Ceaser Ritz worked together with Auguste Escoffier (King of chefs) for two decades. He died in his own native country, Switzerland, in 1908 A.D.
Willard Marriott
Willard Marriott is another famous name in the feild on hospitality business. He started the business of catering named A&W Fast food Cafe in Washington D.C. in 1928 A.D. he converted his regional chain of root beer stands into Sandwich shops specializing in barbeque beef sandwich and hamburger. Marriott Expanded the simple catering into lodging business after 20 years, and eventually built a 5.3 billion-hotel empire(the world's second largest hotel chain), Marriott Corporation. Now, it operators Marriott hotels and Residence Inns.
Auguste Escoffier
He was born in Villeneuve in 1846. He was a very renowned chef knows for his innovations. At a very tender age of 13 he picked up his first job in one of his uncle's restaurant. His inborn talent was noticed and rapidly moved up to the position of "Commis Rotisseur" in onre of the then famous restaurants with the name 'Du Petit moulin Rouge', in Paris within a few years time her opened his own restaurant with the name'Le Faisan Doree;in Cannes. The operating of this restaurant can be marked as the most crucial point of his life. Here he met the talented Swiss manager Ceaser Ritz and Won his friendship. Escoffier readily accepted Ritz's job offer to work in the capacity of'chef de Cuisine' at the 'Grand Hotel' in the Monte Carlo. The team gradually portrayed a new image and worked in the formula of modernization with simplification. The formula became very famous and they earned a worldwide reputation. this propagated their business and they became bosom friendly.
